Warmth on a Cold Day
Victoria’s first winter market was a cold, blustery affair, but a great deal of warmth was generated by vendors like Ottavio, who roasted chestnuts, Andrew Shepard of Vancouver Island Salt Company, who continues to harvest even in the dead of winter, and Sea Bluff farm with their many beautiful varieties of earth-bound pumpkins, turnips and squash. Add to that the thumpin’ rockabilly of Slim Sandy, mix in our many bundled up, rosy and generally happy customers, add a dash of dancing and we stoked a fire hotter than any barrel could produce.
Check out this Vendor Profile we captured of Vancouver Island Salt Co. from Victoria’s inaugural Winter Market!
A big thanks to Market Square for providing a beautiful and somewhat sheltered venue, and to all the volunteers, customers and vendors who braved the wind and cold to show their continued support for local food producers and a permanent indoor marketplace in downtown Victoria.
The Victoria Downtown Public Market Society will turn up the heat on December 18th for the second Winter Market of the season with more street food, cheese, preserves and HOT cider to keep you warm.
